GlitchTip
Open-source, self-hostable error tracking platform compatible with Sentry SDKs, with an optional hosted plan.
Works with AI agents:CLIGlitchTip is an open-source error tracker built to accept data from Sentry's SDKs. You point the Sentry SDK you already use at a GlitchTip server and get an issue list, alerts and stack traces without depending on Sentry itself.
The model mirrors Sentry's. You create an organization and projects, each project gets a DSN, and your app's Sentry SDK reports exceptions, log messages and CSP violations there. Repeated occurrences of the same error are grouped into issues. You turn off session tracking, which GlitchTip does not support, and keep trace sampling low. Its own CLI uploads source maps and debug symbols.
In one package a small team gets error tracking, basic performance monitoring (slowest requests and database calls, no dashboards to build), log search linked to errors, and uptime monitors that either ping your site or wait for a heartbeat from a scheduled job. Self-hosting needs only PostgreSQL 14+ and a single service, with Valkey or Redis optional, and can run in as little as 256 MB of RAM. The maker, Burke Software and Consulting, also runs a hosted service in the US and in Germany.
Limits: GlitchTip covers the core of Sentry but not all of it. There is no session tracking, and its performance view is deliberately simple. On self-hosted installs, data is deleted after a configurable retention period (90 days by default), and disk use grows with volume, roughly 30 GB for a million events a month.

Loved and watch-outs
Themes that recur in makers' words and Hacker News comments, each linked to what it summarises.
- It accepts Sentry SDKs, so switching from Sentry is mostly a DSN change. HNHN 2HN 3
- It is far lighter to self-host than modern Sentry, needing a few containers rather than a large server, while covering what small teams need. HNHN 2HN 3HN 4
- It is MIT-licensed open source, unlike Sentry's source-available license. HNHN 2
- Self-hosting avoids usage-based bills when a noisy integration floods the tracker with events. HN

Questions makers ask about GlitchTip
Do I need a special SDK?
No. GlitchTip accepts data from Sentry's open-source SDKs; you initialize, for example, @sentry/browser or the Python sentry_sdk with your GlitchTip DSN and set session tracking to off, since GlitchTip does not support sessions. source ↗
What do I need to self-host it?
PostgreSQL 14 or newer and one GlitchTip service (or separate web and worker services when scaling), with Valkey or Redis 7+ optional. Docker Compose and a Helm chart are provided, and 512 MB of RAM is recommended. source ↗
How long is data kept on a self-hosted install?
Retention is configurable through environment variables; the master default is 90 days, and error events stay in PostgreSQL for 30 days before being archived. source ↗
Can the hosted version keep data in the EU?
Yes. Hosted GlitchTip runs in the US and in the EU (Germany), and every plan is available on the EU instance. source ↗
What happens if I go over my monthly event limit on the hosted plan?
Once the quota is used, ingestion is throttled by 10%, rising gradually until events are fully blocked at twice the quota. Events count error occurrences, uptime checks, performance transactions and megabytes of release files. source ↗
Is GlitchTip GDPR compliant?
GlitchTip self-certifies GDPR compliance, offers DPAs on request and does not use customer data to train AI models. Hosted users can delete all their data by deleting their organization and user. source ↗
Can I use GlitchTip for healthcare data?
HIPAA-compliant hosting is available as an add-on to the Large plan, which also offers a BAA on request. source ↗
How can I cut down the number of events I send?
Lower tracesSampleRate (for example to 0.01) to send only a fraction of performance events, which are the most common cause of going over limits, and use sampleRate to send only a share of error events. source ↗
Is GlitchTip free?
Yes — there is a free tier a small product can run on; paid use starts at $15/mo. source ↗
Is GlitchTip open source or self-hostable?
Open source, and you can self-host it.
Can AI coding agents work with GlitchTip?
It has an official CLI (@glitchtip/cli).
