Vercel Blob is object storage built into Vercel for files an app writes at build time or at runtime: avatars, screenshots, video, user documents. You create a store from the dashboard or CLI and connect it to one or more projects instead of opening a separate cloud storage account.

You work with it through the @vercel/blob npm package (put, get, head, list, copy, del). A store is either private, where every read needs a token and files reach users through your own Functions, or public, where anyone with the URL can read; the mode is fixed when the store is created. Projects on Vercel authenticate with short-lived OIDC tokens added automatically, and code running elsewhere uses a long-lived read-write token. Vercel Functions accept request bodies only up to 4.5 MB, so larger files go straight from the browser as client uploads.

Stores can be placed in any of 19 Vercel regions, blobs are cached on Vercel's CDN for up to a month by default, files can reach 5 TB through multipart uploads, signed URLs give time-limited access, and conditional writes with ETags stop concurrent updates from overwriting each other. It runs only on Vercel's infrastructure.

Overwrites and deletes can take up to 60 seconds to show through the cache, so Vercel recommends treating blobs as immutable. On the Hobby plan, going past the included usage blocks Blob access until 30 days have passed.
