“We use v0 as our frontend companion to generate .tsx files, and then we use SmythOS agents to integrate those designs with our existing code & APIs. In some cases we instead use Cursor to do the integration, and SmythOS to provide the API functionality. In 2025, our goal is to not have any front-end developers anymore, and stop designing product UX in Figma all together. Instead, the product person who has both user data and product experience, is able to imagine the user interfaces, while our AI agents put everything together.”

v0
Vercel's AI tool that generates UI and full-stack app code from natural-language prompts.
Works with AI agents:llms.txtv0 is Vercel's AI agent for building web apps. You describe a page or a product, upload a screenshot or import a Figma file, and it writes the code, shows a working preview and publishes it to Vercel. It started as a UI generator and now builds full-stack apps, including AI features.
Its output is a Next.js project in React and TypeScript, styled with Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui, using the AI SDK for AI features. Each chat belongs to a Project tied to a Vercel project, which holds environment variables, deployments and domains. Previews run your app in a Vercel Sandbox (a lightweight VM), so API routes and database calls work as they will in production. A VS Code-style editor, a terminal and a visual Design mode sit next to the chat.
For a small team the useful parts are Git: import an existing repository, and v0 works on its own branch, commits each change, opens a pull request and merges it on Publish, never pushing straight to main. Databases come from one-click Vercel Marketplace integrations (Neon, Supabase, Upstash, Vercel Blob), and you can teach v0 your own design system. A v0 API lets you embed its app-building agent in your own product.
It is not a backend platform: data lives in whatever provider you connect, and the full workflow (previews, environment variables, deploys) assumes a Vercel project, though you can export the code and deploy elsewhere. It doesn't work offline.

The marketing site couldn't become a weeks-long project. v0 let us go from "we need a site" to basementbrowser.com in a fraction of the time it would've taken to build from scratch. We'd describe a section, add an in-house design as visual reference/guide, iterate on the output, and it consistently produced clean, production-ready React/Tailwind that we could actually work with not slop we'd have to rewrite (it's actually in our monorepo too 👀) The output drops into our Next.js monorepo without a fight. For founders who know how to code but can't afford to spend 3 days pixel-pushing a hero section, it's the right tool. We shipped a site we're genuinely proud of and moved on. Questions makers ask about v0
Do I need Vercel to use v0?
For previews, environment variables and deployments, the repository should be connected to a Vercel project. You can still export the code and deploy it somewhere else. source ↗
Can I use v0 on an existing codebase?
Yes. You can import a GitHub repository, a Vercel project or a ZIP file and keep working on it in v0. source ↗
How does v0 work with GitHub?
It creates a working branch for each chat, commits every change automatically, and can open a pull request; Publish merges that pull request and starts the production deploy. It never pushes directly to main, and required checks and reviews still apply. source ↗
Can I work on the same project with Cursor or Claude Code?
Yes, by connecting the v0 project and the other tool to the same GitHub repository and pulling each other's changes. source ↗
How do I add a database?
Through a Vercel Marketplace integration such as Neon, Supabase, Upstash or Vercel Blob. Adding one provisions an account with that provider and puts its environment variables in your project, and v0 can create and change SQL tables. source ↗
Are my prompts and code used to train models?
They may be, unless you are on Enterprise or have opted out of model training in your Vercel team settings. You can download your prompts and content from your account. source ↗
Is v0 SOC 2 compliant?
v0 is in the scope of Vercel's SOC 2 Type 2 report for security, confidentiality and availability. source ↗
Is v0 free?
Yes — there is a free tier a small product can run on; paid use starts at $30/user/mo. source ↗
Is v0 open source or self-hostable?
Not open source, and hosted only.
Can AI coding agents work with v0?
It serves an llms.txt docs index.
