Replit
Browser-based IDE and hosting platform with an AI coding agent for building and deploying apps without local setup.
Works with AI agents:llms.txtReplit is a development environment and hosting platform in the browser, built around an AI agent. You describe what you want in plain language, and Replit Agent plans it, writes the code, sets up the database and publishes it, so you can go from idea to a live web or mobile app without installing anything.
Every project runs in a cloud workspace with a file tree, shell and preview, so you can switch between prompting the agent and editing code yourself. Each app has two Postgres databases: a development one the agent can change, and a production one it can't touch, with schema changes applied at publish time. Files go to App Storage, backed by Google Cloud Storage. The agent saves checkpoints of code, packages and database contents that you can roll back to in one step.
Publishing offers four deployment types: Autoscale (scales to zero when idle), Static, Reserved VM (always on, for bots and background work) and Scheduled. There's a Git pane for GitHub, and on paid plans you can connect over SSH from VS Code or Cursor. Data is hosted mainly in Google Cloud in the US, with an opt-in region in India; Replit has a SOC 2 Type 2 attestation.
Your development environment, databases and hosting all live on Replit, and resource limits (CPU, RAM, storage, bandwidth) are set by your plan. On the free Starter plan the agent runs only in its lighter Lite build mode.

AI App BuildersMaker says so · source ↗“Built the majority of this app on Replit. It took over 1000 prompts and hundreds of hours but it would have taken me much longer to cover it from scratch.”
AI App BuildersMaker says so · source ↗“Replit is the only platform where an AI agent can build, run, test, and deploy a full-stack app end-to-end without ever leaving the environment. Cloud World Model went from idea to production entirely inside Replit: the backend, the React frontend, the database, the TypeScript SDK, the Chrome extension, the MCP server, the OpenAPI spec, the CI checks, all of it. No local setup, no context-switching between tools, no deployment pipeline to wire up separately. The agent just builds, the checks run, and it ships. That tight loop is what made this possible.”
AI App BuildersMaker says so · source ↗“We used Replit to power our Developer Kit, as it was easy-to-use and powerful. You can literally spin up your own DIMO integrated app in under 60 seconds.”

AI App BuildersMaker says so · source ↗“I used Repl.it agent to code this in about half an hour! The beta of the V2 agent was pretty good - only one rollback and a few bug fixes.”
AI App BuildersMaker says so · source ↗“Heavy user 3 years. Couldn't go a day without it. Even without the solid AI tools and agents, it's a well made editor that feels like it's made by people who use it. I appreciate all your efforts, sometimes I take for granted how magic set up is. You really get to code when you want, not when the little box says it's ready. 🔥”

- The agent builds, runs, tests and deploys a full-stack app inside the browser with no local environment setup. PHHN
- Deployment is built in, with a simple database, SSL and hosting handled so an MVP can launch without infrastructure work. PH
- Good at zero-to-one builds such as lead-gen sites, extensions and small team tools spun up in minutes. HNHN 2PH

Questions makers ask about Replit
Can I use my own editor instead of the browser?
Yes, on Core, Pro and other paid plans. You can connect to a Replit App over SSH from a terminal or from VS Code or Cursor, and copy files with scp. source ↗
Can I push my code to GitHub?
Yes. The Git pane connects a project to a GitHub repository, with branches, commits and one-click push. GitHub Enterprise Server, GitLab Self-Managed and Bitbucket Data Center are supported on the Enterprise plan. source ↗
Can the agent break my live data?
The agent works on a development database and can't modify the production database behind your published app. Schema changes you made in development are applied to production when you publish. source ↗
How do I undo a change the agent made?
Roll back to a checkpoint. The agent creates them automatically, and each one captures files, installed packages, the agent's conversation context and the database's schema and data. source ↗
Which kind of deployment should I use?
Autoscale for web apps and APIs with variable traffic, since it scales to zero when idle; Reserved VM for bots, background work and always-on APIs; Static for sites with no server; Scheduled for jobs that run at set times. source ↗
Where is my data hosted?
Mainly in Google Cloud data centers in the US, with an optional hosting region in India for users who opt in. Replit has a SOC 2 Type 2 attestation and encrypts data in transit and at rest. source ↗
Is my code used to train Replit's models?
Prompts and generated content are used for model improvement by default. Pro users can opt out in settings, and Enterprise customer content isn't used for training. source ↗
What can't I do on the free Starter plan?
Starter gets only Lite build, not the full autonomous agent, plus one published app that goes down after 30 days and shows a "Made with Replit" badge. Plan Mode and third-party connectors such as Stripe also need Core. source ↗
Is Replit free?
No permanent free tier; paid use starts at $20/mo. source ↗
Is Replit open source or self-hostable?
Not open source, and hosted only.
Can AI coding agents work with Replit?
It serves an llms.txt docs index.
