SendGrid, owned by Twilio, sends application email through its Email API and SMTP service, and marketing email through Marketing Campaigns, all in one account.
You authenticate to the v3 REST API with an API key, using the official libraries for C#, Go, Java, Node.js, PHP, Python or Ruby, or send over SMTP with an X-SMTPAPI header carrying per-message instructions. Dynamic templates are stored in SendGrid and filled with your data at send time. Delivery events go to your app through the Event Webhook. To receive mail, you point an MX record at mx.sendgrid.net, and Inbound Parse posts each parsed message and its attachments to a URL you choose.
Useful for a small team: an Email Activity Feed to trace each message's delivery, with search and CSV export; subusers to separate statistics and permissions, for example transactional and marketing mail (up to 15 on Pro and Premier); and, on Pro, dedicated IPs and single sign-on.
Several team features (subusers, SSO, dedicated IPs) start at the Pro plan, not the entry plan. Searchable activity history beyond the default window requires a paid add-on, which extends it to 30 days, and all Email Activity data is stored in the United States.
