“Nuxt - frameworks don't get much better than this one!”
Frontend FrameworkMaker says so · source ↗
Nuxt
Vue.js meta-framework with file-based routing, server-side rendering, and a large module ecosystem.
Works with AI agents:llms.txtCLINuxt is a full-stack framework for Vue. It adds file-based routing, server rendering, data fetching, server API routes and a configured Vite build, so you write .vue files and get both the front end and the server in one project.
Pages under app/pages/ become routes, and components and composables are auto-imported. useFetch and useAsyncData load data during server rendering and reuse it in the browser. The server side runs on Nitro, a server engine built on h3: files under server/ become API endpoints and middleware, and Nitro presets build the same app for Node, serverless or edge runtimes.
Useful for a small team: route rules let each path choose its own rendering, such as prerendered, cached and revalidated, or client-only, so a marketing site and an admin area can live in one app. Modules distributed on npm add features like auth, content or images in a line of config, and layers let you share a base app across projects. It deploys to a Node server, as static files via nuxt generate, or to many hosts with zero configuration.
Limits: it is tied to Vue, so React-only libraries do not apply. Auth is not built in; the docs use the nuxt-auth-utils module. Nuxt 5 is in development, so plan for another major upgrade, which can be tested early with a compatibility flag.

Alternatives to Nuxt
All alternatives by situation →Questions makers ask about Nuxt
What are my deployment options?
A Node.js server is the default output; you can also prerender the whole site for static hosting with nuxt generate, or build for serverless and edge platforms through Nitro presets. source ↗
Can different pages use different rendering modes?
Yes. Route rules in nuxt.config let each path be prerendered, cached with revalidation, or rendered only in the browser. Hybrid rendering is not available when you use nuxt generate. source ↗
Can I build a client-only app?
Yes. Setting ssr to false renders everything in the browser, which the docs suggest for SaaS and back-office apps that don't need search indexing. source ↗
How do I add login and sessions?
The official recipe uses the nuxt-auth-utils module, which stores session data in sealed, encrypted cookies, so you don't need a database just for sessions. source ↗
Can it render at the edge?
Yes. Through Nitro it can render on Cloudflare Pages, Vercel's edge runtime or Netlify Edge Functions, and route rules still apply there. source ↗
What are Nuxt modules?
npm packages that run when Nuxt starts or builds and extend the framework, such as adding components, server routes or build config. You add them with nuxt module add or in nuxt.config. source ↗
Is a new major version coming?
Nuxt 5 is in development. From Nuxt 4.2 you can set future.compatibilityVersion to 5 to try most of its breaking changes before upgrading. source ↗
Is Nuxt free?
Yes — it is free, open-source software.
Is Nuxt open source or self-hostable?
Open source, and you can self-host it. source ↗
Can AI coding agents work with Nuxt?
It serves an llms.txt docs index; it has an official CLI (nuxt).
